According to the findings of the TransUnion, the balance of outstanding private student loan delinquency accounts for just $17,754 at the present time and it was around $13,033 in the fourth quarter of 2009. From the state level perspective, Florida has registered the highest delinquent private student loan rate of 9.4%. The other states were Mississippi with 9.09%, Tennessee with 9.07% and the places that showed the lowest rate were North Dakota with 3.75%, New Hampshire with 3.60 and Vermont with 3.28%. There were many factors that were responsible for the sharp decrease in the debt and they are as follows:
- Large number of unemployed people seeking new degrees
- Creating awareness about importance of the federal loans
- Not advising student to opt for non teri loan program
In the words of Thomas Morrissey who is a Manager at Decision Services Business Unit at TransUnion, federal loans constitute for a larger share when it comes to avail the expenses of higher studies, but in the coming times it is expected that the private lending agencies would establish their dominance in the financial industry because the tuition fees is likely to be increased.
The Private Student Loan Delinquency Rate is in the trend identified by TransUnion of Sallie Mae which is largest lender when it comes to private student loan. In the last 90 days of previous year, this lending agency was running at 6.1% for delinquent private student loans and it was around 4% in the last months of 2008. No matter that there is a surge in the delinquencies over the years but the investors are cool to securities which are backed by the several student loan. TransUnion predicts that the future perspective of the private student loans would be more favorable if this trend continues.
Thomas Morrissey further says that if you compare the dollar value new private student loans which originated in 2009 to that of 2008 and 2007, it has fallen by nearly half the value. At present the total number of private student loans is likely to remain static as of year 2010 but is likely to increase in the coming 2 years.
